Located in the northwestern corner of Allegheny County, Marshall Township had a population of 6,915 in its 15.9 square miles, according to the 2010 census. Data from 2000 indicates 5,996 people living in 1,944 households and 1,675 families; of these households, 51.2% had children under the age of 18; 79.4% were married couples. Median household income, as of the 2000 census, was $102,351, while median family income was $109,376. Per capita income was $42,856. Those looking for new homes in Marshall Township will be pleased to know that the median value of a house or condominium rose from $210,000 in 2000 to $364,460 in 2008.North Allegheny School District provides public education to residents of Marshall Township (as well as McCandless, Franklin Park and Bradford Woods). In 2012, the Pittsburgh Business Times ranked North Allegheny School District 6th out of 498 public school districts in the state, and third of 105 districts in Western Pennsylvania. The National Center for Education Statistics reported in 2010 that 1,314 were enrolled in North Allegheny Senior High School with a student-teacher ratio of 13:1.Marshall Township takes is namesake from prominent defense attorney Thomas Mercer Marshall who, in 1863, successfully litigated the separation of the township from Franklin Township. Two extant trails whose origins predate European settlers pass through Marshal Township. Venango Trail, in the north east corner of the township, runs from Pittsburgh, through Franklin (in Venango County), all the way to Presque Isle. The Kuskusky Path cuts the township in two, in north-south fashion, running through Marshall Elementary and Middle School properties on its way to New Castle. The township maintains two sizable parks (Knob Hill Park and Warrendale Park), replete with such outdoor amenities as baseball fields, horseshoe pits, tennis and volleyball courts, an 18-hole disc golf course, playgrounds and pavilions for family functions of all sorts.
